This past week was spring break for me. And I found it was possibly the most busy I've been during spring break ever. It was my first spring break with a job, which obviously was a major thing. I had to write my blog post and make my weekly drum cover. But then I had other things come up last minute that I had to take care of, extra things. And of course, Friday was Good Friday, so I had that service to be at. Overall, looking back on my week I found that I had been very busy! But was it TOO busy?
I decided that I was, in fact, too busy. How did I reach that conclusion? Simple: when I thought about what I hadn't done that week, I ralized I had shortened the time I spent with God.
When looking for something to cut from your schedule, unfortunately it is very easy to choose spending time with God. I'm sure most of us have had this problem at one point or another: we just felt too busy, and God took the backseat to the other things going on in our lives. Like I said, it's easy to do. But as with almost everything, the Bible has something to say about this.
One such verse is one I've been trying to memorize this month: Matthew 6:33. It says "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Notice how he says seek FIRST his kingdom. Following God is something that should be done FIRST! Not after we do our own thing. Seeking His Kingdom and His righteousness is more important.
I want to be closer to God. I've said that many times, and it is still true. The only way to do that is to spend time with Him. And if I want to be a better follower of Him, I need to spend more time learning His commands. I want to do everything he asks of me and do it well! This is why spending time with Him is so important.
So like I said, I've been busy. But when you're busy, you have to prioritize things! Spending time with God is very important to me, as it should be to all His followers! Because of that, it should be higher on my priority list than it is. I've looked at my life and I know there are other things I can be doing less of! Because time with God is so important, it should take priority over many of the other things I'm doing.
And that's how you can spend time with God. You're not too busy! How could you possibly be too busy to spend time with the Creator of the universe? I mean, take a moment and think of a celebrity that you admire and would like to meet. What if you could? Of course you would do it, and you'd want to spend as much time with them as you could! How much more should you want to spend time with the One who created the world and everything in it?
So what do you do when you think you're to busy for God? Prioritize. I can promise you that if you take an honest look at your life, you will find something that you can get rid of. Maybe it's sleep; you should be getting up early to spend time with Him. Maybe it's video games; you need to cut back so that you have more time for God. Whatever the case may be, I encourage you to reflect on your life and find a way to spend more time with God. That's what I'm doing this week. And I know that I won't regret it!
