It's Christmas week. It's almost here! Anticipation is growing. And in the middle of it all, I realized that all too often, I get too caught up in what's going on right now: preparations, decorating, buying presents, Christmas cards... I spend so much time thinking about this that I forget what Christmas is really about.
Christmas is about the birth of Christ! Christmas is commemorating Jesus' birth. This is the week of remembrance of our Prince of Peace that came to save the lives of all who choose to believe in Him.
I'm not saying gift giving is wrong, or spending time with family is wrong. That stuff is great. I love my family and I love giving gifts (and receiving them, when I'm being honest with myself). There is nothing wrong with that. But that's not the reason for the holiday.
So this week, just remember: it's not about receiving. And it really isn't about giving either: it's about the ultimate gift of Jesus, and the salvation that he brings to those who choose to follow Him.
