Today is the first day of Summer Day Camp. It's a four day program that is from 8:30-4:30, so about 7 hours. I am volunteering as a helper for the first time, and I'm super excited! But at the same time, I'm also really nervous.
Like I said, this is my first time volunteering. And this is a pretty big thing. I have to be there for 10 hours a day (7-5, I have to be there early for a staff meeting and stay late till all the kids get picked up), and I'll be spending time with them both to have fun and to help them learn more about God. That's a pretty big responsibility!
As most of you probably know, I am an introverted person. Going up to someone new and getting to know them is not something I'm good at or very comfortable with. But that's basically what I will be doing all week, as I will have to meet and make friends with my team members, help them in games, teach them, learn Bible verses with them, and just spend time loving on them.
So I ask that you would pray for me and the rest of the staff that we would be able to make friends with the kids, that they would trust us and be able to confide in us, and that we would help bring them in to a (closer) relationship with Christ. Pray that as the week goes on (it will be long!) we will not be crabby but we will always be able to act in love.
And also, for me specifically. After being at Campus Life from 7-5, I'll be going to work for another 3-4 hours after that. It's going to be a really long week and I will need God's strength to help keep me going!
