This past week was Lifest 2016!!! I had been looking forward to it for so long and now it's already over, which is sad. But I did have a ton of fun while I was there, and today I want to share with you what I thought of all the bands that I watched while I was there!
Josh Wilson
Josh Wilson is a young man who has been playing music for a while now. He started out playing his acoustic in coffee shops. He now has a whole band and has released quite a few albums, his most popular being the most recent one "That Was Then, This Is Now." The title track of that album was the one I had heard and I loved it, so I went to see him at Lifest and he was REALLY good! I'll definitely be checking out more of his music, as I liked all of the songs he performed.
MercyMe
This was the second time I saw MercyMe in concert, the first being a few years back. I love their music, but to me seeing them in concert isn't quite the same as other bands. They don't deviate much from the recordings, so seeing them in concert doesn't add as much to the experience of listening to their music. However, like I said, I do love their music, so it was still a lot of fun! My favorite song they performed was "Welcome To the New."
TobyMac
TobyMac is my second favorite band that played this year. Their concerts have so much energy, and you can tell all the band members are genuinely excited and having fun. While they do a little rap in some of their music, (I'm not really a fan of rap most of the time) TobyMac is definitely in my top 5 favorite artists for their fun songs! One of my favorites to see live was "This is Not a Test."
Lybecker
This was a band I had never heard of before, but I thought I'd check them out since I had nothing else to do at that time. I went, and wasn't super impressed. Their lead singer and lead guitarist were the same person, and he basically just played rhythm the whole time, no riffs or any cool stuff. The backup singer wasn't that great either. I didn't stay for the whole concert.
Citizen Way
I wrote a post about these guys back in 2015 (Artist of the Month: August) about how I had just discovered their music and loved it. Well, now I got to see them live! They were pretty popular, there were a lot of people at their concert and for good reason! They were very good. I've recommended them before, and I will again now: check them out! They just released their second album and are growing more and more popular.
Family Force 5
This concert was really weird. Family Force 5 has some crazy music, and while it is fun to listen to, seeing them live was weird. I did laugh a lot though. They wore really weird outfits and had some crazy stuff going on during their songs, such as people dressed up as T-Rexes jumping on mini trampolines. It doesn't get much weirder than they were. Here is one particular song, written while the band watched Karate Kid. It's called Sweep the Leg.
That's all the bands I'm gonna do for this week! I'll talk about the rest of the bands I saw during the weekend in next week's post, so stay tuned! Also, if YOU were at Lifest, let me know what you thought of these bands in the comment section! Have a great week!
